Students in the 4th grade learned about the Mexican Celebration "Dia de los Muertos"
(Day of the Dead). This Mexican Holiday is celebrated by many of the Hispanic students
at Rolesville and these students are given the opportunity to "show and tell" their family
experiences with Dia de los Muertos. Here, students are creating decorative skeletons
which is a symbol of Day of the Dead. Students compare and contrast the American
holiday "Halloween" with "Day of the Dead". Below are finished skeletons that were
displayed as a part of this Mexican unit.

Chinese New Year was another great unit we had lots of fun with.
Students from different grade levels created Chinese New Year
Dragons like the ones we saw in a video that showed an actual
Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco, California. California
has a very large Chinese community and it was great learning about
this holiday and this culture. Below are more Chinese New Year
projects.

5th Graders learned about the German artist
Gustav Klimt. Since it was the holiday season,
they created Christmas (or Holiday) trees using
the same style as Klimt. The tree limbs were
swirly and curly. Students were very impressed
with the European "twist" they applied to their
holiday trees.
Below is a jungle mural created by 4th and 2nd
graders. 4th graders painted the jungle, while
2nd graders made the African jungle animals
out of paper. Very impressive and a fun collaboration
between the two grade levels.
