Special Area subjects are integrating Language Arts Common Core Standards with their own curriculums. The steps I have taken in ART to insure students receive a well rounded language arts program is: 1. Students keep journals which include both drawing AND writing. 2. Students are learning that a work of art is also a form of TEXT. It tells a story......with or without the use of words. 3. Kids are learning how to interpret their works of art with their skills in language arts.
4. Students learn how to assess their own art projects and the works of famous artists.
Each week, students are challenged to view a work of Art as a form of Text.
Students draw and write in their journals when they finish assigned project early.
Kindergarteners added a sentence to their "JIM DINE" Hearts to interpret what their artwork expresses.
Students learned how to "assess" or "evaluate" their own art work. They know how to recognize their strengths in art, and the parts of art that they need to work harder on.
